In 1949, He overthrew the government of Sami al-Hinnawi and got promoted to minister of defense. He started a second coup in 1951, when he arrested the prime minster, Fawzi Selo. When the second coup was over, he started to rule and became the dictator. Shishakly staged a referendum to elect himself president. He supported the west mostly and hated israel. In 1952, he created a political group called Arab Liberation Movement which was under his control. He eliminated many political groups and banned newspapers to rule military power. Adib Shishakly is a former right wing dictator of syria.
